About NetChild

NetChild is a University Network for Childhood Disability Research in the Netherlands and was launched in January 2003 to bring together colleagues from rehabilitation medicine and special education in Utrecht. NetChild will be developing its first five-year research program. The three main research themes are Family, Function and Fitness.

NetChild is modeled on CanChild, Centre for Childhood Disability Research in Canada with a long tradition of multidisciplinary collaboration in this field. NetChild and CanChild expect to continue and in fact increase shared research activities in the future.

Purpose

NetChild was set up by and for professionals in childhood disability. The founders believe that children with disabilities and their families should have the opportunity to fulfil their role in society in freedom, and by that improve or maintain their quality of life.

NetChild’s objective is therefore to minimise constraints in the natural course of development of children with disabilities.

NetChild hopes to achieve it's goals by:

  • building a network of professionals in the field of childhood disability;
  • innovative research focused on improvement of knowledge of professionals in the field of childhood disability;
  • dissemination of knowledge.
